(Limnanthes alba)

White meadowfoam is an annual wildflower native to Oregon and Northern California. Beloved by pollinators, the nectar of these white and slightly pink flowers gives a marshmallow flavor to honey (check out Old Blue Raw Honey to purchase some meadowfoam honey, so delicious!). White meadowfoam produces seeds with a 20-30% content of edible and cosmetic oil, one of the most stable vegetable oils known. Plant the seeds in the fall, warmer periods in winter or in early spring and they will form mounded masses of delicate foliage and flowers by the end of spring. Meadowfoam is good as a spring cover crop, as it can suppress weeds and make a good companion plant for plants with deeper roots or bulbs like garlic or carrots.
