(Phaseolus vulgaris)

Lazy Housewife Pole Bean was introduced to the market by W. Atlee Burpee Co. in the 1880s. Its churlish name comes from the idea that a string-less bean is so easy to process that a lazy housewife can manage cooking them up. Because we can’t take the name seriously, we’ve referred to this variety as Pragmatic Partner throughout the season. Whatever you want to call it, it makes for a good snap bean and an even better shelling bean. Direct seed after danger of frost, and provide plenty of vertical height for trellising.
